Nigeria: Navy Alerts Public to Fake CNS Facebook Account

THE Nigerian Navy has raised the alarm over a fraudulent Facebook account, purportedly belonging to the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS). The navy denied the existence of such account.

A statement issued by the Director of Information, Commodore Kabiru Aliyu stated that the attention of the authorities was drawn to the “fake Facebook account, allegedly belonging to the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Usman Jubrin” where unsuspecting members of the public are swindled and directed to call some telephone numbers for the “purpose of enlistment in the navy.”

He said the CNS does not operate a Facebook account, “therefore anybody who subscribes to this fake account for the purpose of enlistment into the Nigerian Navy does so at his own risk.”

He noted that the navy has already provided numbers to guide the public in the forthcoming 2014 Nigerian Navy recruitment exercise. These numbers are 08124511398 and 08159999011.

He said this disclaimer exonerates the Nigerian Navy of any damage “suffered by gullible members of the public” who fall prey to the fraudsters.
